Advice
The way you train affects the space, and the space affects the way you train.
We've all been there… the cheap, ugly, crowded gym that smells like someone forgot to put deodorant on. And, without a doubt, that environment makes it harder to train.
So why travel to a gym, where all the benches are taken, when you could walk into your spare room, garden or garage and have a beautiful, clean, and fully stocked gym just for you!

01
Start with quality flooring
You shouldn't drop a heavy barbell on concrete, let alone carpet.
Rubber tiles protect your floor and reduce noise. But most importantly, they make it feel like a proper gym, a complete space.
Flooring is the foundation of your gym. Quality flooring is essential.

Build your gym around your training
An adjustable bench, rack, and a quality barbell are a great place to start for any home gym. However, you should build your gym to suit your space and your unique training style.
You might be a functional fitness guru. In which case, you should prioritise a great kettlebell collection and proper storage racks.
Or, you might want to train your whole body, in which case a multigym would be an excellent choice.
The point is, you shouldn't just copy your neighbour or follow some generic checklist you found online. You should invest in the equipment that's going to support your training style.
If you aren't sure what you need, our experts are happy to talk it over with you and make suitable recommendations.

Plan before you buy
We understand that a home gym is a big investment, and there are constraints to consider, like the size of your space. So, before you go impulse-purchasing a power rack, it is a good idea to have an equipment list of your own.
How do I come up with a home gym equipment list, you ask?
First, make a list of your ideal equipment. What would be in your dream gym?
Then, from that list, extract the essentials. What can't you live without?
Next, work out where you can compromise on price. For example, it's safer to have a cheap barbell than a cheap rack.
Finally, measure up. What do you actually have space for?
Once you have all the boring details worked out, it helps to rank all your items based on necessity, price and size. This should be a clear indication of where to start (if you've been paying attention, you'll know that flooring should be near the top of your list).

Make the most of your space
We aren't all millionaires with mansions. If you are, congrats! You can skip this section.
For many home gyms, it's important to be intentional with whatever space you have.
Thoroughly consider the layout before you go ahead and install your kit. Make sure that everything is easy to use, flows nicely and doesn't obstruct any doors (we can do this for you).
There are lots of options for those trying to save space. For example, combination machines or racks, with a small footprint, are a great option because they allow you to work multiple muscle groups with the same piece of equipment.
Custom-built storage or a modular storage system is often the way to go. Custom storage guarantees that all of your equipment will not only fit in your space, but will also keep things looking neat, tidy and sleek.
But if you don't have the budget for custom storage, don't worry! Gym storage solutions are only getting more intelligent. We have loads of creative and efficient storage options engineered specifically to save space.

Personalise your gym
It's your space. So it should look however you want.
Get your equipment made in your favourite colours, or get it looking professional by matching the colours to the space. With a full spectrum of colours for both the steel and upholstery, the options are endless.
Customise your gym. Pictures up on the wall, maybe a few plants. A water cooler? Whatever you want. But try to keep clutter from the rest of the house to a minimum, because you shouldn't be climbing over a pile of washing to get to your weights.
